Salt River Project delivered a record amount of energy on Friday, the hottest day of the year so far.
Preliminary information showed the Tempe-based utility delivered an all-time high peak load of 9,072 megawatts between 5-6 p.m. July 24, surpassing the previous record peak of 8,542 MW set on Aug. 7, 2025, SRP officials stated in a release. The company also exceeded the 2025 record multiple times on Thursday, July 23, and Saturday, July 25.
For reference, one megawatt is enough energy to power approximately 225 homes, according to SRP.
