Drivers should expect delays and detours this weekend when southbound State Route 143 will be closed between Loop 202 and Interstate 10 for work that will shift traffic, state transportation officials said.
The work will take place from 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, to 4 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7, and, at the same time, the following ramps will be closed:
- The ramps from Loop 202 to southbound SR 143.
- The I-10 ramps to northbound SR 143.
In addition, the following ramps will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday:
- The southbound SR 143 on-ramps at Washington Street, Sky Harbor Boulevard and University Drive.
- The westbound Loop 202 off-ramp at Sky Harbor Boulevard.
Westbound Loop 202 Detour: Use westbound Loop 202 to eastbound I-10 to reach destinations south of the closure.
Eastbound Loop 202 Detour: Use eastbound Loop 202 to southbound Loop 101 to westbound Loop 202 to reach destinations south of the closure.
To reach Sky Harbor Airport, use southbound 44th Street from Loop 202 or Buckeye Road, ADOT advises.
When southbound SR 143 reopens on Monday, southbound 48th Street also will reopen.
The eastbound I-10 off-ramp at 48th Street will remain closed until later this year, and ADOT officials suggest using the eastbound I-10 off-ramp at Broadway Road.
