Spring training games, soccer tournament get OK’d by Mesa

Cubs, A’s, other events have COVID safety plans approved

The city of Mesa has approved 18 special events of 50 people and larger through May, including spring training games for the Chicago Cubs at Sloan Park and Oakland A’s games at Hohokam Stadium.

All public events with 50 or more people scheduled to start on or after Dec. 3, 2020, must adhere to the public event and health standards as outlined by Arizona Executive Order 2020-59 and the city of Mesa. COVID-19 mitigation plans submitted by event organizers to the city and the Arizona Department of Health Services are available on the city’s website.

The Chicago Cubs games Feb. 27-March 30 have been approved for 5,000 attendees, including participants, coaches, spectators, event staff, officials and vendors at Sloan Park, 2330 W. Rio Salado Parkway.
