Speed limits have been reduced in several areas in Tempe

As of June 13, several areas in Tempe have reduced speed limits by 5 miles per hour to improve safety.

The city says that the effort also aligns with Tempe’s Vision Zero goals, which include efforts to reduce car crashes citywide. 

These changes followed a thorough public process, including two council hearings, presentations to multiple commissions and community input, including a meeting with the Tempe Bicycle Action Group.

Speed limits have been reduced in several areas in Tempe

As of June 13, several areas in Tempe have reduced speed limits by 5 miles per hour to improve safety.

The city says that the effort also aligns with Tempe’s Vision Zero goals, which include efforts to reduce car crashes citywide. 

These changes followed a thorough public process, including two council hearings, presentations to multiple commissions and community input, including a meeting with the Tempe Bicycle Action Group.

Below are the areas with reduced speed limits: 

  • McKellips Road: Reduced from 40 mph to 35 mph between College Avenue and Scottsdale Road.
  • Miller Road: Reduced from 35 mph to 30 mph from the northern city limits to Curry Road.
  • Veterans Way/Fifth Street: Reduced from 30 mph to 25 mph from University Drive to Farmer Avenue.
  • Broadway Road: Reduced from 45 mph to 40 mph from Terrace Road to the eastern city limit, and from Priest Drive to the western city limit.
  • Roosevelt Street: Reduced from 35 mph to 30 mph from Broadway Road to Southern Avenue.
  • Priest Drive: Reduced from 45 mph to 40 mph from Alameda Drive to Baseline Road.
  • Guadalupe Road: Reduced from 45 mph to 40 mph from Kyrene Road to the eastern city limit.
