South Mountain multifamily project approved after making concessions on density, height

Phoenix City Council unanimously approved a multifamily development in South Mountain after the developer made some concessions around density, height and buffer to neighboring housing. However, some residents felt the concessions made were not enough.

Councilmember Kesha Hodge Washington said she felt the concessions were a fair compromise.

“While this general plan amendment opens the door for a higher-density residential development, it does so with important guardrails in place,” Hodge Washington said during the Sept. 17 meeting. “I believe the revised proposal strikes an appropriate balance between the need for new housing and the importance of protecting the integrity of existing neighborhoods.”
