Posted
By Jeremy Carr
The Sonoran Sounds Women’s Chorale has two upcoming Sun City shows.
The group will perform at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, located at 10233 W. Peoria Ave., at the corner of 103rd and Peoria avenues in Sun City.
They will also perform at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 24 at American Lutheran Church, located at 17200 N. Del Webb Blvd. in Sun City.
Under the direction of Ms. Sun Joo Lee and accompanied by Mina DeWitt, the chorale will perform various musical selections, including “Memory,” “Over the Rainbow,” “Kyrie Eleison,” “Ac-cent-tchu-ate the Positive,” and “Lullaby of Broadway,” among other inspirational and popular tunes.
There will be a freewill offering at both performances.
For more information, visit Sonoransounds.org or call Joyce Bowlby at 623-975-5321.
Sonoran Sounds is an all-volunteer group of people who treasure music. Singers, the director, and the accompanist rehearse and perform for the love of music and to share that commitment with audiences throughout the northwest valley of Phoenix. The chorale is made up of women who are individually experienced with backgrounds in different fields of music, including musical theater, teachers of music, vocal jazz, classical performance and various instruments. These talents appear as soloists or to accompany the group instrumentally.
Four to six concerts each year is typical in a rehearsal and performance season. The season is September through April. Rehearsals are 9 a.m.-noon Mondays at Sun City West Christian Church, at 151st and R.H. Johnson in Sun City West. Additional sectional rehearsals are scheduled as needed to achieve appropriate ensemble unity.
Chorale business matters are managed by a five member Board of Directors with AdHoc non-voting positions as well.
Editor’s note: Diane Plein is the Sonoran Sounds publicity coordinator.
