What one Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board member describes as an attempt to speed up meetings is being construed by other board members as an attempt to stifle dissenting opinion.
During the board’s Aug. 29 meeting, board president Julie Cieniawski proposed a policy change to eliminate board members’ reports in an attempt to shorten meetings that frequently run more than three hours.
“My perspective is that our constituents do see us out in the community, supporting our schools,” Cieniawski said. “I believe all of us are holding ourselves accountable to support our district and make ourselves available to the public and that these governing board reports are not necessary.”
