Solskjaer's winning streak continues for Man U in FA Cup

By STEVE DOUGLAS , Associated Press

Alexis Sanchez had just been substituted and was resting up in the Manchester United dugout when he got a tap on the arm.

It was Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and find another.

There's no doubt who's the boss inside Old Trafford these days.

It was a case of different competition, same result, for Solskjaer on Saturday as United's interim coach collected a record-tying fifth straight win to start his tenure, with his team beating second-tier Reading 2-0 in the FA Cup third round. The other four victories came in the English Premier League.

Juan Mata — from the penalty spot — and Romelu Lukaku scored the first-half goals for United, allowing Solskjaer to join the great Matt Busby (in 1946) as the only United managers to win their first five games. The Norwegian is in charge until the end of the season after coming in as the replacement for the fired Jose Mourinho, but has stated he wants the job on a full-time basis.

Five top-flight teams followed United into the last 32, among them titleholder Chelsea after its 2-0 home win over second-tier Nottingham Forest. Alvaro Morata scored both goals for Chelsea, which beat United in last season's final at Wembley Stadium.

Cesc Fabregas, who had a penalty saved in the first half, left the field to applause late in what is likely his last game for Chelsea before completing a reported move to French team Monaco.

Everton won at home to fourth-tier Lincoln 2-1, West Ham beat second-tier Birmingham 2-0, Burnley needed a stoppage-time penalty to beat third-tier Barnsley 1-0, while Brighton won at Bournemouth 3-1 in an all-Premier League matchup.

Premier League struggler Cardiff was upset, however, at third-tier Gillingham 1-0, and Southampton was held at second-tier Derby County to 2-2.

The third round is the stage where sides from England's top two divisions enter the world's oldest club knockout competition.

Record 13-time winner Arsenal was playing later Saturday at third-tier Blackpool. Arsenal's bus was delayed setting off from the team hotel because a Blackpool fan got onto the top of it and sat down in protest at the conduct of his club's owners.
