As we approach Veterans Day, a Valley resident's original poem:
Soldiers and Sailors Are Now SoFew
By Bob Kayser | Sun City West
Their stories and deeds shall no longer be told,
For now, they have become too fragile and old.
Once considered young, daring and bold,
I’m sorry to say they shall no longer be known.
Soldiers and sailors who were once called “Sir,”
Riding into battle in a blinding blur,
Saviors of peace, and those things worth fighting for,
Yet now, because of their age, they’ve been shown the door.
They were men and women from east to west,
America’s finest, always considered the best.
We shall always remember and never forget
Those soldiers and sailors — even those we never met.
To those who don’t remember or choose not to know,
The soldiers and sailors are gone, and they are now few
Even when injured and hurt, they never withdrew;
May they rest in peace and lie in God’s view.
To all soldiers and sailors, we send our love,
For they rest with God in heaven above.
