OPINION — Reflecting on a snapshot of America today, I have some observations.

After more than 50 years of growth, the nation's immigrant population is in decline. In January 2025, 53.3 million immigrants, both legal and illegal, lived in the U.S. — the largest number ever recorded. As of June, 51.9 million immigrants lived here. They make up 15.4% of the population and 19% of the labor force.
