Social media school vandalism trend reaches West Valley campuses

Deer Valley, Peoria Unified both report multiple incidents

A social media trend making the rounds has made its way to West Valley schools, and that’s not a good thing.

The new “challenge” called “Devious Licks” encourages students to steal soap dispensers and other bathrooms items, or to generally steal or damage school property, and then anonymously share a video with the hashtag on TikTok. One unconfirmed report from Ironwood High School, at 6051 W. Sweetwater Ave., in Glendale, said students have been stealing mirrors, doors and even a toilet.

It isn’t just high schools. Of the 17 schools impacted within Peoria Unified School District, 13 are elementary schools.
