SmokeTree Resort again fails to garner Planning Commission support

Gentree LLC has, for the second time, fallen short of garnering Paradise Valley Planning Commission’s support to recommend plans for a redeveloped SmokeTree Resort.

On Nov. 17, the Planning Commission voted 4-3 to recommend denial of the proposed redevelopment, which includes 115 resort rooms, restaurant, retail meeting space and site improvements.

“This property is less than 5 acres, and that I think is what is providing challenges here,” said Planning Commissioner Pamela Georgelos during the meeting. “This is a small site, and although I think the applicant has really tried with this site, what is happening here, is as a result of trying to do too much on a small site.”
