Sleep in Heavenly Peace organizes bed build for kids in need

Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a volunteer-driven nonprofit dedicated to building and delivering hand-made, fully furnished beds to children in need, partnered with KB Home and Simpson Strong-Tie to give back.

Together, the organizations and more than 65 of their employees worked together to build 100 beds for underserved families in Phoenix on Saturday, June 10, according to a press release.

KB Home is one of the largest and most recognized homebuilders in the United States, while Simpson Strong-Tie is a leader in engineered structural connectors and building solutions.

Founded in Idaho in 2012, Sleep in Heavenly Peace has provided over 150,000 beds to kids in need at more than 300 chapters in four different countries, including the U.S. and Canada.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace Phoenix Chapter President Joe Genovese said in the release, “At SHP, we are thrilled to be building beds for kids in need with two great companies like KB Home and Simpson Strong-Tie. Their support means the world to us and to our goal to see that ‘No Kid Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town.’”

Through its KB Cares giving program, KB Home also donated bed linens for all of the beds built during the event. Simpson Strong-Tie held a teddy bear drive at its Riverside, California facility to gift to the children receiving the beds, according to the release.

“KB Home was introduced to Sleep in Heavenly Peace through our strategic partnership with Simpson Strong-Tie,” said Rob McGibney, executive vice president and chief operating officer for KB Home. “The nonprofit’s mission nicely aligns with our KB Cares giving program and specifically our focus on helping to provide shelter for those in the most challenging circumstances. We believe that a safe and secure shelter includes a place to sleep, so we are grateful to be able to assist in building these bunk beds for children in the local community.”

“This is the first time Simpson Strong-Tie has participated with one of our builder partners on a community activity at this scale and we’re grateful to SHP and KB Home for making it a reality,” added Nate Johnston, Simpson Strong-Tie vice president of national accounts - builder/pro supply.

KB Home and Simpson Strong-Tie share a culture of giving back to local communities, the release stated.

KB Home is built on relationships and believes that every action the company takes, from how it cares for its communities to how it safeguards the planet, has the potential to make a positive impact for everyone. The company’s KB Cares giving program is one way it puts that ideal into action.

Home construction and repair is a key focus area for Simpson Strong-Tie charitable giving and the company demonstrates that through monetary and product donations, engineering and technical support and employee volunteerism.
