Sky Harbor receives $30M in grants for solar panels, neighborhood improvements

The city of Phoenix recently received $30 million in federal grant funding for projects at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, and aviation staff has its eyes on millions more.

Sky Harbor will receive $20 million to install solar panels in airport parking lots and $10 million toward improvements for a neighborhood west of the airport called the PHX Land Reuse Strategy, Deputy Aviation Director Jordan Feld announced at this month’s Phoenix Aviation Advisory Board Planning and Development Subcommittee.

The city also applied for a $16 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for electric vehicle charging stations throughout the city, including some fast chargers at airport ground transportation parking lots.
