In the six months since the city of Litchfield Park officially transitioned its public safety services from the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office to the Avondale Police Department, residents may have noticed a greater police presence in the city of 3.3 square miles.
It’s not just their imagination. The city gained an extra patrol officer when it made the switch to Avondale Police, part of the city’s increase in public safety spending, City Manager Matthew Williams told the Independent in an email.
“While many cities were reducing their funding for public safety, Litchfield Park increased its police spending by 65%,” Williams said.
