While Valley freeways deteriorate, choosing between surface treatment options becomes critical

North Glendale section of Loop 101 next in line for rehab testing in pilot program

This is a story about miles and miles of deteriorating Valley freeways, quality of life in north Glendale, a “crisis,” and hundreds of millions of dollars.

There are answers to some questions, and questions about those answers. Available options are good, and also not good. And, naturally, time is of the essence.

The Valley of the Sun is almost a year into the diamond grind pilot program, a collaborative effort through the Transportation Policy Committee, which the Maricopa Association of Governments established in the early 2000s to oversee the development of the 20-year Regional Transportation Plan and guide the region’s transportation planning. The TPC’s participating voices include 23 members representing cities and towns, the business community, the Arizona Department of Transportation, Maricopa County, and the Native American Indian Communities.
