Train traffic and pedestrians will be the only thing to stop Sun City Fire and Medical Department vehicles from crossing Grand Avenue at will.
Department officials have discussed for years the possibility of installing signal preemption equipment at the Sun City intersections on Grand Avenue. Having to stop and wait for traffic lights to change slows response times, according to Rob Schmitz, SCFMD acting chief.
“Getting across Grand Avenue quickly can mean the difference between life and death,” he said.
