Federal funding

Sidewalks planned on Old West Highway, Winchester in Apache Junction

Nearly $2 million in federal funding is being sought to help construct sidewalks on portions of Old West Highway and Winchester Road in Apache Junction.

The city council on July 19 voted 6-0 to approve the funding as part of an amended intergovernmental agreement in a consent agenda with other items. Councilmember Bambi Johnson was absent.

Arizona Department of Transportation is providing $1,943,679 in federal funds for the project because of increased construction costs, bringing the total cost of the project to $5.7 million, including $355,341 from the city of Apache Junction, Project Engineer Raquel Schatz said at the council’s July 18 study session.
