Side yard variance approved for downtown Mesa home

A reduction to the side yard setback requirements for work done by a previous owner and to pave the way for the construction of a new carport is allowed at 625 N. Macdonald, the Mesa Board of Adjustment decided recently.

The board on Oct. 13 voted unanimously in a consent agenda to approve a variance for the home in a single residence zoning district with a historic district overlay.

The home was constructed in the 1950s. Between 2000 and 2001, previous property owners built additions onto the home and an existing detached garage, connecting the two structures without a permit, according to a written staff report.
