WEST VALLEY PREPS

Short bursts bury Centennial's upset hopes against Hamilton

Centennial football spent the first 8:30 of the third quarter painstakingly working its way back into its Sept. 24 home game against Chandler Hamilton, after trailing 23-3 at halftime.

The Coyotes fought back within a score at 23-15. But in a span of 10 plays that comeback and the momentum that came with it vanished.

Centennial allowed junior Jaxon Haynes' 64-yard kickoff return, a 35-yard Matthew Krneta field goal, gave the Huskies the ball on the Coyotes' 13 on a botched pitchout and a 17-yard touchdown on a fade from quarterback Nicco Marchiol to receiver Tre Spivey. That short burst added up to a 33-15 Hamilton lead and the Huskies win by the same score.
