About 40 Dysart Unified School District students, paired with local officers for the Shop with a Cop event, came away with a lot more than presents — a sense of partnership and public service.
“It was a lot of fun. I got to shop for Isabel here. She shopped for her family first, then had enough to get herself something afterward,” said Cimarron Springs Middle School teacher Angie Kemp, who was a chaperone.
Members of the West Valley Mavericks nonprofit organization, Surprise Police Department officers and other volunteers gathered as early as 7 a.m. to greet middle schoolers who arrived by the district’s bus Dec. 10 at Kohl’s, 14020 W. Bell Road, in Surprise.
