A woman was shot and killed and a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured following a vehicle pursuit Thursday night.
A PCSO sergeant tried to stop a vehicle at about 7:50 p.m., July 17, near the intersection of Gantzel Road and Pecan Creek Drive. The driver did not stop, and the sergeant began pursuing the vehicle, according to a release.
"During the pursuit, the suspect committed an aggravated assault against the sergeant using the vehicle," according to a PCSO statement.

A woman was shot and killed and a Pinal County Sheriff’s Office deputy was injured following a vehicle pursuit Thursday night.
A PCSO sergeant tried to stop a vehicle at about 7:50 p.m., July 17, near the intersection of Gantzel Road and Pecan Creek Drive. The driver did not stop, and the sergeant began pursuing the vehicle, according to a release.
"During the pursuit, the suspect committed an aggravated assault against the sergeant using the vehicle," according to a PCSO statement.
The vehicle later crashed near North Gantzel Road and East Combs Road, where a deputy-involved shooting occurred. Preliminary evidence indicates that rounds were fired at deputies.
The driver, a 46-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
A male passenger was detained and transported to a Valley hospital with minor injuries.
A PCSO deputy was also injured during the exchange of gunfire and was transported to a Valley hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
PCSO states that remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
