Shaw: Sun City amenities benefit all residents

Posted

I felt a need to respond with a counterpoint to the two letters in the Nov. 29 issue of the Sun City Independent. I don’t know where either one lives, but one of the writers purportedly purchased here in 2020.

Our home prices have appreciated since I purchased my present home in April 2018, and one of the reasons for the appreciation of our properties here is no doubt due to the many amenities available for the bargain price of our annual assessment, which, even after the latest proposed increase, remains among the lowest in the country for adult communities.

I don’t golf or play pickleball but use the pool at Bell (as part of our U.S. Masters Swim club) and belong to the vintage vehicle club (for social gatherings as I’m not mechanically inclined). My partner belongs to the woodcarving club. The golf courses not only benefit the golfers in our community (though not me), but the many homes that they abut (though not mine).

If the writers don’t use the facilities as they seem to profess, they should, as one of the writers seemed willing to do, sell their homes and move elsewhere. There is no shortage of retirees seeking an active retirement community with the myriad activities available to us.
