I have to respond to Mr. Kampert’s letter.
Clearly he has not thought out the “unintended consequences” of his proposal to arm teachers. He has also never had a close friend or relative who is or was a teacher.
It’s been many years since I was in grade school in the 1960’s but I cannot imagine any of my teachers, many of whom were women, packing heat in the classroom.
Of those shootings with armed security officers present, those individuals are typically the first targets. As would an armed teacher, principal, custodian or security officer.
And many shooters have body armor — surely Mr. Kampert wouldn’t suggest that teachers wear such tactical gear.
I could go on, but I won’t follow Mr. Kampert down his rabbit hole. I have to imagine that most of your readers reacted to his letter in a like manner.
