Shaw: Response to Reilly letter — projection is a tactic
I feel compelled to provide a respectful counterpoint to Brian Reilly’s letter in the 10/31 Daily Independent.
Projection is a tactic that DJT has deployed forever. As to the fascism label — VP Harris was just repeating Gen. Kelly’s comments in his NYT op-ed. Gen. Kelly was his longest serving chief of staff.
In contrast, it has been DJT that has amped up his “enemy from within” narrative, with an enemies list expanded to encompass all those who disagree with him — from elected Democratic officials to figures like Morning Joe — and sadly, to voters like myself.

As to the Mr. Reilly’s blithe characterization of the violent insurrection that injured Capitol Police and caused some $4 million in damages as a so-called “insurrection” — I watched the live footage. It was not a “love fest” or visiting tourists.
As to election interference, only one candidate was behind an elaborate and coordinated plot to overturn the 2020 election with slates of fake electors to turn the election over to the House. I guess the writer supported the votes of all but one of our Arizona GOP Congressional reps to throw out our legitimate slate of electors certified by our GOP then-Gov. Ducey. The same Doug Ducey whose signing ceremony was interrupted by an unanswered call from DJT to interfere in our state’s election.
As to the cited “adjustments” to vote totals that the writer alleges are made by Democrats and RINOs — those are what most of us call tabulating lawfully cast ballots until all of them are counted, by tireless hard-working bipartisan election workers.
