The writer incorrectly confuses readers by implying that the initiative calls for ranked-choice voting. It does not. What it does is open up our primaries to the large segment of Arizona voters who do not affiliate with the two major parties.
Given our legislative make-up, it will advance only the top two vote getters to the general election. I had signed the petition but had some misgivings in voting yes because it did not mandate RCV, which I would like to see, but would have been more difficult to pass — for some of the reasons cited in the letter.

My yes vote acknowledges the very real likelihood that some general elections might advance two Republicans vs. one R and one D at present.
My hope is that this would result in the less extreme candidate prevailing in the general election, whichever the party.
