Sexually transmitted infections in Valley see big jump

Maricopa County public health data shows increase in syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia since 2016

According to the Maricopa County Public Health Department, sexually transmitted infections for syphilis, gonorrhea and chlamydia have been on the rise since 2016.

Data shared by the county found in 2016 the largest group to contract syphilis were the ages 25-44 with 738 reported cases, in comparison in 2021 for the same age range there were 2,548 cases alone that year.

For Chlamydia cases for the ages, 25-44 in 2016 reported 7,979 cases, and in 2021 that went up to 11,477 cases.
