Sex education classes will be offered to Scottsdale Unified School District students by the end of this school year.
The district governing board approved adding the classes by a 5-0 vote with no discussion.
"Human growth and development and the challenges that come with it are normal," governing board president Dr. Libby Hart-Wells said in an email to the Daily Indpedent. "I'm pleased the good work of the district, staff, especially the nurses, and community was endorsed by a unanimous vote of the board to adopt a new sex education curriculum. The curriculum offers age-appropriate education of the cognitive, emotional, physical and social aspects of sexuality that will empower our students to put their health and well-being first. This milestone is long overdue for our students and families."
