Seward Westley Squires, Jr., 1925-2018. Wes, a native of San Diego, CA, died from pneumonia on February 10th, after a long, full, and active life around the world. As many did after the US entered World War II, Wes enlisted and then had to wait until the age of 18 to go on active duty. He became a pilot in the Army Air Corps and later the US Air Force, making it a career. After his retirement from the USAF, Wes and family moved to Germany to start an import/export business, selling American sports clothing and golf equipment to European golf courses. Always an avid golfer, he became a PGA-certified professional and served as the golf pro and manager of the Navy golf course in Rota, Spain. Returning to the states in 1970, Wes subsequently ran two golf courses in the Denver area, Foothills and South Suburban. He shared his love of the game with others by offering lessons and giving opportunities to young people (the "squids" could hit all the range balls they wanted if they helped keep the course's driving range in order). Wes and wife Marilyn finally really retired in 1981. Together, they built a beautiful home in the Sequim, WA, area before moving to Sun City West in 1991. Here, Wes played golf with the Bandits; took up clogging with several clubs; fully restored a 1953 BSA motorcycle (machining those parts that he couldn't find around the globe); and enjoyed frequent road trips and other travel with Marilyn. A caring man, he was always happy to help his neighbors, and, with Marilyn, introduced the custom of "treating" on the street every Halloween.Wes is survived by wife Marilyn; children Carson, Wes III, and Amy; and sister Daphne.
