Prices at the pump

Several factors could help prolong gas hikes

Maricopa County gas prices are well above the national average — considerably north of $4 per gallon these days.

What’s causing it is where the Valley gets its gas from, and there’s no shot at a decline in prices soon.

California refineries going offline for maintenance could be one big reason why prices at the pump have spiked up to 30 cents a gallon compared with last week, said Julian Paredes, a AAA spokesman.
