A path is being designed along the east side of the Central Arizona Project canal in Apache Junction as part of a 336-mile nonmotorized, multiuse recreational trail corridor.
The Apache Junction Parks and Recreation Department portion of the trail is 6 to 7 miles, Parks Superintendent Dave Butler said during the Sept. 2 meeting of the city’s parks and recreation commission.
“What’s unique about our portion of the trail is that we do have a loop. Most of it is just a straight shot of a trail. We have ... a little bit over a mile of a loop, And then just off of Baseline is actually the trailhead” with a ramada, parking stalls and a hitching post for horses, he said.
