Former Scottsdale Councilor Tom Durham filed an open meetings law violation complaint on Jan. 28 against the city council for its repealing of an ordinance banning the use of electronic communication devices during council meetings.
The former city council passed a ban on the use of electronic communication devices on the dais during its April 16, 2024, meeting.
The vote was unanimous but the move was aimed at Vice Mayor Barry Graham’s perceived texting during council meetings, according to several other council members. The belief was Graham was texting his campaign manager, who was in the crowd during most of the meeting.
