Scout lends hand to help Foundation for Blind Children

Even dog guides need a break once in awhile.
Justin Dewane knew this and made sure the guide dogs at the Foundation for Blind Children had a chance to stretch their legs and take a quick break from working hard.
Justin, son of Mark Dewane, a former FBC board president and treasurer, shares his father’s passion of giving back in a big way.
The guide dog relief area was Justin’s idea for his Eagle Scout Project where he planned, developed, and installed turf grass area for all of the guide dogs that visit, work and play at the Foundation for Blind Children.
The turf grass area is not only a self-sufficient cleaning and filtration system, but the dogs will also have their very own fire hydrant.
“It makes me very proud that my son has come to understand the importance of helping others,” says Mr. Dewane. “He knows that I take my involvement with FBC very seriously and that I believe strongly in its mission. When his Eagle project was evolving, he asked me, ‘what can I do to help the Foundation for Blind Children?’ I loved working for him and having him organize the whole project.
“The fact that it will be used by the Guide Dogs is even more special.”
With both father and son working to benefit FBC, Marc Ashton, the CEO of FBC, mentioned “The Dewane family has done so many great things for us here at FBC. Justin coming out to complete his Eagle Scout Project and do it in such a creative manner is no surprise to us, I can only think of the saying that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree."
