Janet Orlandi, who is currently in her 80s, was presented with the 2022 William P. Schrader Volunteer Impact Award by Mayor David Ortega at the city of Scottsdale’s annual Employee Awards ceremony.
The award is given annually to a Scottsdale volunteer, or group of volunteers, for making a notable impact on the program they support, according to Volunteer Program Coordinator Brandon Chapman. The award was renamed in 2017 to honor former Mayor William P. Schrader, who served as a city volunteer for 50 years.
“I was shocked,” Orlandi said. “I volunteer because I want to, not because I need accolades. When they called about this award for the city of Scottsdale, I was dumbfounded. But it’s nice to be recognized by your peers because I think that means what you’re doing is making an impact.”
