Scottsdale teen lives up to namesake with ‘We Kingz Bro’ business

While a picture can say a thousand words, so can a name like “We Kingz Bro,” an apparel line founded by Scottsdale’s King Mauni, a 12-year-old entrepreneur.

“Being a king is all about having a purpose, a vision,” stated King Mauni. “I was always telling my friends ‘We Kingz.’ Every time I met young boys my age, and boys on my football team, I would tell them ‘We Kingz.’ So I added the bro because that’s how we talk (and) I came up with We Kingz Bro.”

The company is among a host of recipients recently awarded grants of up to $25,000. The company joins about 30 Black, Indigenous or people of color — BIPOC — businesses chosen by Tempe leaders to use funds toward business growth and success.
