Scottsdale small businesses feel targeted by Mayor David Ortega’s mask mandate

Outrage stems from criminal citations issued for mask violations

Local small businesses are frustrated after receiving criminal citations for not complying with the mayor’s mask mandate.

A day after taking office, Mayor David Ortega reinstated Scottsdale’s mask mandate in an emergency proclamation on January 14, after former Mayor Jim Lane lifted it in September of last year.

According to the current mandate, masks are to be worn in all places of public accommodation, with exceptions for children, those with health conditions and in instances where proper social distancing is maintained.
