Scottsdale Schools tally uses for $29.5M federal COVID-19 relief funds

Scottsdale Unified School District has received $29.5 million in one-time federal funds to assist with COVID-19 impacts, but for some the status of student assistance is in a state of emergency.

The concern stems from recent district data that shows 49% of eighth grade “i-Ready” math students are testing below grade level. Further, only 18% of third grade English Language Arts students are testing at the 85th percentile or higher of their peer group.

“...I can tell you right now a lot of our students are really falling behind. We don’t have time to sit here and talk through the committees, which I know we need them, and wait to develop this wonderful plan. They’re behind now. And, they need to hear how they can get the support today,” said Patty Beckman, a member of the Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board. “We really need to get going on this.”
