Scottsdale public schools’ superintendent puts math first for evaluation

Math is priority No. 1 for Scottsdale Unified School District Superintendent Dr. Scott A. Menzel, who publicly announced, and all but promised to see significant student achievement in six months.

The declaration was part of his annual goals and performance pay plan approved by the SUSD governing board, at the Dec. 14 meeting where the motion to approve his performance pay and annual goals passed 3-0. Board members, Jann Michael Greenburg and Zach Lindsay, who left early to attend his daughter’s recital, were not present.

With modifying a scaled system to evaluate the superintendent, new metrics were added to stipulate requirements to justify his performance pay in his $205,000 base-salaried contract, which according to Independent’s archives, entails performance-based pay, compensation percentages, plus possible pay decreases, paid time off, usual health/disability benefits and more.
