Police arrested 31-year-old Jeremy Dykstra Sunday in connection with a burglary at a Scottsdale home July 4 involving $27,500 in jewelry, handbags and electronics.
Dykstra is in the Maricopa County Jail on charges of second degree burglary, two counts of trafficking in stolen property, aggravated assault, unlawful flight from law enforcement, hit and run and reckless driving, according to a press release from the Scottsdale Police Department.
Police responded to a residence in the area of 11400 E. Black Rock Road for a burglary in progress on July 4.
An adult family member told police he was at the home when he observed a man, later identified as Dykstra, walk in front of a window, according to the release.
The family member went to leave the residence but Dykstra had parked a vehicle in the driveway, blocking the garage, the release said.
Shortly after, the family member heard a window break and ran to the neighbors to call 911, according to the release.
Upon the officers’ arrival at the residence, Dykstra was behind the wheel of a car in the driveway. Officers attempted to block the car using a patrol vehicle, but Dykstra drove away from the scene at a high rate of speed, hitting a responding officer’s car. Two officers who were on foot were nearly hit by the car Dykstra was driving, the release said.
Other responding officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which had the license plate covered up, but the pursuit was terminated out of interest of public safety as the fleeing vehicle drove at excessive speeds and even drove the wrong way into oncoming traffic, the release said.
The driver was identified as Dykstra through investigative means and Scottsdale detectives arrested Dykstra at 10400 N. Black Canyon Highway without incident July 20. A search warrant was served at the hotel room where he was staying and evidence of the burglary was located inside. Detectives located evidence that Dykstra was pawning items from the burglary, according to the press release.
Most of the stolen items were recovered during the investigation.
