Scottsdale police have arrested a man as a suspect in a human trafficking case after a woman reported he assaulted her during an argument, authorities said.
Police reported Tuesday, Jan. 10, that they had received a call about 3 p.m. on Dec. 26 from a “concerned neighbor” of a home near 71st Street and Vernon Avenue. The neighbor reported hearing an argument between a man and woman.
Officers arrived, and the woman told them that the suspect, Steven Hurry, assaulted her during an argument.
“The woman indicated Hurry was her boyfriend, and the argument and physical assault were a result of her refusing to have sex with a man Hurry had arranged to come and meet the victim for sex in exchange for money,” police said in a release.
The woman said she was being sexually trafficked by Hurry daily, according to police.
Officers contacted the police department’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit detectives who assisted the victim in getting resources to get away from Hurry.
Hurry has been booked on charges that include sex trafficking, sexual abuse and aggravated assault.
