Scottsdale Police arrested 54-year-old Stephen Douglas Ashburn on charges related to aggravated assault and assault after an armed stand off with officers Dec. 14.
Ashburn surrendered himself around 3 a.m. after police deployed chemical weapons into his apartment. He was taken to a hospital and later booked into the Maricopa County jail, according to a press release from the Scottsdale Police Department.
According to the release, Ashburn allegedly assaulted someone and threatened someone else with a gun.
When police arrived at his apartment near the intersection of 64th Street and Indian School Road around 11:30 p.m., Ashburn allegedly refused to exit, according to the release.
Scottsdale Police Department SWAT members responded to assist patrol with the situation. Surrounding apartment units were evacuated prior to SWAT tactics being used, which included chemical munitions, the release said.
A police drone was able to see Ashburn was armed with a gun inside the apartment prior to him surrendering.
Streets between Osborn and Indian School roads at 64th Street were closed during the standoff.
The victim of the initial assault was evaluated by paramedics and was reported to have minor injuries, according to the release.
