Firefighters from Phoenix and Scottsdale joined forces Saturday night to put out a house fire near 56th Street and Thunderbird Road.
No injuries were reported in the fire, but Phoenix officials said two people have been displaced.
Firefighters took a defensive position after the home was evacuated.
The combined effort came about because firefighters in the Valley who are closest to an emergency respond regardless of jurisdictional boundaries, according to the Scottsdale Fire Department.
“In many communities in the United States, jurisdictional lines prevent firefighters from another city or district who are closer to an emergency from responding to that emergency,” Scottsdale officials said in a release on a department social media site.
“In the Phoenix metropolitan area, the closest firefighters are dispatched, regardless of jurisdictional considerations.”
Phoenix authorities reported fire crews achieved a "good knockdown" on the blaze shortly after 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3.
