A 35-year-old man who is considered a suspect in the death of a man in Scottsdale was arrested Saturday in Phoenix after police received a tip, authorities said.

Matthew Dieringer was spotted by a person on Sept. 6 near 13th Street and Indian School Road after authorities had been searching for him for nearly a week, according to a Scottsdale Police Department release.

Phoenix police responded to the area just before 9 a.m. and arrested Dieringer for a probation violation warrant.

An investigation started on Sept. 1, when Scottsdale police responded to 67-year old Frank Quaranta's home near 68th Street and McDowell Road for a welfare check.

Officers found Quaranta dead inside his home. He had “obvious signs of blunt force trauma,” the release stated.

Detectives learned during the their investigation that the victim had provided Dieringer with a place to stay at his home, and evidence found indicated Dieringer as the suspect in the homicide, police said.

On Sept. 6, police received a message from a person who said they saw a man  they believed was Dieringer around 13th Street and Indian School in Phoenix.

At approximately 8:58 a.m., Phoenix  police responded and took Dieringer into custody.

“This was a true team effort, and it shows what can be accomplished when our employees, our community and our law enforcement partners work together,” Scottsdale Police Chief Joe LeDuc said in the release.

Additional charges against Dieringer are pending, police said.
