The Scottsdale Police Department is part of a Valleywide effort to prevent drunk driving over the Cinco de Mayo weekend.
The department is teaming up with other local law enforcement for a DUI task force and saturation patrol from Thursday through Saturday, May 4-6.
The task force is a collaboration between the Scottsdale Police Department, the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and police departments from Gilbert, Mesa, Salt River and Tempe.
Task force officers “will contact drivers and arrest those who make the disastrous decision to drive impaired, removing them from the roadway before they hurt themselves or others,” Scottsdale police said in a release.
Authorities recommend if celebration plans for Cinco De Mayo include consuming alcoholic beverages or using marijuana, “it is best to pre-arrange a sober driver, ride share or taxi,” the release stated.
