Scottsdale Police have arrested two 18-year-old women in connection with conning a special needs man into giving them his wallet where they found a debit card and used it to spend more than $700, authorities said Monday.

Paradise Adams and Pearl Mitchell were arrested on Oct. 7 and Oct. 14, respectively, for a theft that police said occurred while the victim was working at the Fry’s near Shea Boulevard and 90th Street.

The victim was working at the store on Sept. 25 when the suspects approached him in the parking lot, police said.

“Without using any force, they convinced the victim to exchange his wallet for a non-working iPhone that Adams had,” police stated in a release.

The pair kept the wallet and later used the debit card to make unauthorized purchases, police said.

Using available surveillance video and other investigative means, detectives identified Adams and Mitchell from the initial incident. Through investigative efforts and follow-up, including eight different search warrants, according to officials, detectives were able to find and arrest both suspects in Phoenix.

During the investigation, detectives reportedly learned that Adams and Mitchell knew the victim was special needs before they contacted him in the parking lot.

Both Adams and Mitchell were booked into Maricopa County jail for the following charges: theft of credit card, a class 5 felony; credit card fraud, a class 6 felony; and theft, a class 1 misdemeanor.
