Scottsdale OK’s budget increase for Drinkwater underpass art

The Drinkwater Boulevard underpass in Old Town Scottsdale will be getting an eye-catching makeover after Arizona artist Barbara Grygutis is finished with it.

As part of the Civic Center Plaza renovations, the 300-foot-long underpass is planned to be turquoise in color, with long three-dimensional aluminum rope running the its length.

In February, Scottsdale City Council approved a funding increase for the project — growing its budget from $200,000 to $1.4 million, citing that costs to realize the design are greater than what was originally allocated.
