Scottsdale officials prep more positions in city's $2.1B budget

City Hall outlines spending, projects for 2022-23 budget

The tax revenue Scottsdale has accrued from recreational marijuana will be used to fund a new police department unit to address short-term rental properties, new budget documents show.

In total, the city’s budget estimates the general fund will increase by $52.3 million from last year’s adopted budget to be $371.6 million. The general fund accounts for 23% of the city’s upcoming $2.1 billion budget.

According to documents stemming from Scottsdale’s finance department that outline the upcoming fiscal year 2022-23 budget, 33 new full-time equivalent positions are being proposed. Half of those positions are in the police and fire department to be funded with the new Proposition 207 monies, which went into effect in November 2020. Prop. 207, known as the Smart and Safe Arizona Fund, can only be used for personnel costs.
