Scottsdale officials disappointed in death short-term rental bill at Legislature

A bill to reign in short-term rentals is all but dead in the Legislature this year, much to the chagrin of Scottsdale City Council members.

House Bill 2429 would have limited the number of people who can stay in short-term rentals — houses available to rent for less than a month — and given municipalities more authority to shut down bad actors as well as required checks to see if renters were sex offenders.

But the operative words are “would have.”
