Scottsdale native studying to be U.S. Navy chaplain
Posted
Lieutenant junior grade Eric Bear, a native of Scottsdale, is training at the U.S. Naval Chaplaincy School to serve as a chaplain for America’s seafaring warfighters.
Bear graduated from Valley Lutheran High School in 2004. Additionally, Bear earned a bachelor’s in psychology from the University of Phoenix in 2016.
Bear said the skills and values needed to succeed in the Navy are similar to those found in Scottsdale.
“Growing up around a wide variety of cultures helped to prepare me for life in the Navy as sailors come from many different cultures to form one cohesive unit,” said Bear.
Bear has eight years of military service.
“After serving eight years in the United States Marine Corps, I joined the Navy to become a chaplain so that I might serve those who continue to serve today,” said Bear.
