Mother whose son inspired Taylor Swift song reacts to the singer’s engagement

Maya Thompson is one of the many “Swifties” cheering for Taylor Swift and her Kansas City Football fiancee Travis Kelce following their engagement announcement on Instagram on Tuesday morning. The two posted photos of them in a garden with the caption “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” creating a frenzy online.

But for Thompson, the singer’s joy is personal.

Thompson is the mother of Ronan, a young boy who died of cancer and inspired the song of the same name that was later released to Swift’s album “Red” in 2021. Thompson later started the Ronan Foundation, which works to fund cancer research in children to help avoid childhood cancer deaths.
